Meet Michael - Piano, Guitar, & Bass Teacher

Raised near Omaha, Nebraska, Michael started studying electric bass guitar in his early teenage years. The mystery and joy of learning music quickly led to performing in local bar cover bands and teaching beginner lessons. These successes encouraged further study at Berklee College of Music where double bass, piano, and guitar became the instruments used to continue study of the fundamental ear training, theory, arranging, and performance concepts at the core of the program. In 1995 Michael relocated outside Chicago, Illinois where he lived for over 15 years teaching, performing, writing, and recording. After completing his BA in Jazz Composition in spring of 2012, Michael based himself in New Orleans and began performing around the world backing lounge singers aboard cruise ships. During these years he began methodic study of brass instruments, developing some basic skills on trumpet and tuba. By 2018 Michael had settled in New York City to be with his journalist wife, Catharine. In the wake of COVID-19 the couple were relocated to Seattle, Washington in January of 2022 where Michael continues to perform and share the joy of discovery that he gets from learning something new about music every day.
