Meet Arthur - Woodwind Teacher

As a saxophonist Arthur has been a featured soloist with the Spokane Symphony, the University of Idaho Symphony Orchestra, and the Pacific Lutheran University Symphony Orchestra. He has served as the saxophone and jazz teaching assistant at the University of Idaho where his duties included teaching History of Rock and Roll, leading jazz ensemble III, coaching chamber groups and jazz combos, teaching private lessons, and leading saxophone fundamentals classes. He has been recognized extensively in both classical and jazz settings, winning the 2014 Musicfest Northwest Festival, and being repeatedly recognized as an outstanding soloist at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. As a chamber musician Arthur performed as a member of trIaD, placing as a finalist in the 2016 MTNA national chamber music competition in San Antonio, having won the state and regional competitions. He is currently the baritone saxophonist for Drea & the Marilyns, an indie pop trio based in Seattle, WA, and a member of and arranger for the South Sound Saxophone Ensemble.


As an educator, Arthur maintains an active private studio, and consistently serves as an adjudicator and clinician for Solo & Ensemble, regional jazz festivals, and local school band programs. He has been a jazz ensemble director and section coach for schools all across Washington state. His students have gone on to be placed in honor and all-state bands, win their division in Musicfest Northwest and Solo & Ensemble, be recognized as soloists at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, and pursue music careers of their own. Arthur received his master’s degree in saxophone performance from the University of Idaho, and his bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance from Pacific Lutheran University. He has studied saxophone with Erik Steighner, Vanessa Sielert, Collin Wilson, Robert Miller, and James DeJoie. Additionally he has studied clarinet with Shawn Copeland, Delores Hungerford, and Craig Rine.
