Meet Qiuchen - Piano, Percussion, and Drumset Teacher

Qiuchen Wang is an active percussion performer and an enthusiastic music educator. Born and raised in China, she is currently based in the United States and has performed in various venues in China, Canada, and the United States. She earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in China, and studied with Prof. Anthony Gonzalez. Also, she holds a master's degree in percussion performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a scholarship, where she studied with Prof John Beck. In 2017, she moved to Canada and went to McGill University for a Graduate Diploma in Performance with a scholarship, and studied with Fabrice Marandol, Ben Reimer and Shawn Mativetsky. Having completed her Advanced Certificate in Performance at the University of Toronto under Aiyun Huang, Beverly Johnston and John Rudolph, she moved to Seattle to work as a performer and music educator. Currently Ms. Wang is principal percussionist of Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, percussionist of Orchestra Seattle, Ensign Symphony chorus, Philharmonic Northwest and Northwest Symphony Orchestra.

From 2009 to 2011, Ms. Wang participated in National Orchestra performances in Guangdong province, working with many well-known artists. On behalf of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, she traveled to Hong Kong and Macao, for symphony orchestra performances. She has been extremely frequently in TV performances, cultural exchange performances, conferences, and in series at concert halls around China. Since 2010 she also has been working at IPAC (International Percussive Arts and Modern Music Center), DaYa Music Education Alliance, and DunShan Culture and Arts Training Center. Qiuchen was awarded as an Excellent Teacher for 2014 South China Wind & Percussion Solo & Chamber Music Invitational Competition. She also actively participated in several well-known workshops and performances including Leigh Howard Steven 37th Summer Marimba Seminar, Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) 2016 with Cloyd Duff Scholarship, Nief-Norf Festival 2017, Atlantic Music Festival 2018 with fellowship. Qiuchen attended 2019 Guangdong International Percussion Art Festival as a professional judge. Besides, she has been a music teacher (with Teacher's Certificate in Music Education) for Ten years in music education and had been a full-time Percussionist of Beijing Performance Production Center of Guangdong Province TV Station. She was a fantastic teacher at Canada Music Academy.

Qiuchen has studied Classical, Rock, Jazz, Contemporary, Steel Pan, Tabla, Latin-American, and African drumming. She can teach marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, & timpani (beginner to advanced), snare drum & drum-set (beginner to advanced), piano (beginner to intermediate), and music theory & ear training (beginner to advanced). She can also offer lessons in Mandarin!
