Meet Brent - Piano Teacher

Hi! My name is Brent Labasan (he/him) and I am a Seattle-based pianist and music producer with over a decade of piano experience spanning classical, pop, contemporary, EDM, and some jazz. My musical journey began in the first grade with formal lessons, continued with recital and concert performances, and today you can find me busking my piano on the streets of Seattle, engaging listeners of all ages while enjoying the thrill of performing for an ever-changing audience. Additionally, I volunteer with Music Mends Minds, playing the piano over Zoom to individuals with neurological disorders such dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and PTSD.

As a teacher, my goal is to make learning the piano both approachable and rewarding for every student. I take time to understand each student’s background, skill level, and personal goals, and then create lessons tailored to their interests and learning style. Whether you want to learn to play your favorite songs, build confidence with stage performance, or dive deeper into music theory, I’ll guide you step by step. Working through any frustrations you encounter and helping you conquer any challenges you face is a journey I want to be a part of!

For me, playing the piano is an artistic and technical skill that helps express a player’s emotions and humanity. It strengthens focus, sharpens discipline, and allows us to express emotions in a way that words often cannot. My teaching is rooted in these values, and I want every student to experience the joy and self-expression that comes with learning and playing the piano.

I use Ableton Live and FL Studio for music production, and MuseScore for composition and notation. Students who want to learn the software driving today’s music industry will find our lessons engaging and relevant to the ever-evolving world of music and entertainment
I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where I studied with teachers Mildred Oshiro, Juei Lee Mariano, and Kay Goshi. Since moving to Seattle in 2005 to attend the University of Washington, I’ve made the city my home. When I’m not teaching or performing, I enjoy exploring entrepreneurship, videography, gathering people for volleyball, and biking around Seattle on both my regular and electric bikes.
