Meet Leon - Piano, Violin, Guitar, & Classical Guitar Teacher

Leon is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, music educator, and software engineer whose career is defined by a rare bridge between technical precision and artistic expression. With a foundation built on decades of rigorous training and international performance, he offers students a comprehensive perspective on music that spans classical, jazz, and folk traditions.

Before moving to the United States, Leon dedicated over 12 years to the intensive study of the violin. His academic journey in Kyiv, Ukraine, included seven years of specialized music school followed by four years of musical college. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance and Music Education, subsequently completing two additional years of higher musical education at the prestigious Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music. This exhaustive curriculum provided him with mastery in violin and piano performance, solfeggio, harmony, orchestration, and pedagogical practice. His experience in symphony orchestras and string quartets solidified his deep understanding of ensemble dynamics and classical theory.

At age 16, Leon’s musical curiosity led him toward jazz and Dixieland. After teaching himself the tenor saxophone, he earned a seat in a jazz ensemble at the Kyiv Conservatory. This versatility soon expanded into a passion for vocal performance and acoustic guitar. He became a prominent figure on the festival circuit, earning numerous accolades, including recognition at the Second Nationwide USSR Bard Song Festival.

After immigrating to the United States, Leon successfully transitioned into software engineering, a field that mirrors the logic and structure of music theory. Throughout this professional pivot, he remained a cornerstone of the Russian bard genre, recognized today as one of its premier performers. His 2009 album, Leon Pozen Live, is currently featured on Spotify. As an educator, Leon has spent years mentoring fellow artists, conducting formal lessons, and hosting masterclasses in guitar accompaniment and vocal technique. He prides himself on helping students find the balance between technical mastery and soulful storytelling.
