Meet David - Woodwind and Piano Teacher

David has maintained a private lesson studio and performed playing various instruments since the mid-2000s.  He has worked in private and public music education programs, including serving briefly as a general music teacher, middle school band instructor, and elementary orchestra tutor.

David began taking piano lessons as a second grader and moved to wind instruments to play flute in middle school band.  Soon after, he moved to saxophone, playing in concert, jazz, and marching bands as well as city honor groups and youth symphonies through middle and high school.

After completing a Bachelor of Music in saxophone from the University of California, Santa Cruz, he moved to San Francisco where he performed at several high profile venues and many corporate events and weddings, playing saxophone, flute, and clarinet with jazz big bands and combos and popular music horn sections.  He has also performed with cover bands and other groups playing bass guitar, piano, and woodwinds in the Seattle area and beyond.

David's teaching style has been described and patient and approachable.  In private lessons he hopes to pass on a sense of curiosity and wonder and to foster critical thought among other transferable skills and ideas that can be taught through music and the arts.  His favorite areas to teach are ear-training and musicianship applied to songs a student chooses or enjoys and the fundamentals, technique, and theory to understand and play those songs.
