Meet Jamie - Piano, Flute, Oboe Teacher
Jamie Sanidad believes that music lessons can help students grow not only in their instrumental skills, but also in their problem-solving skills and the ways they relate to the world around them.
Jamie is a performing oboist, private teacher, and oboe reed maker in the Seattle area. She began playing the piano at age five and passed the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music’s Grade 8 Piano Exam in high school. Picking up the oboe in fifth grade, she played in the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra and Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra throughout grade school.
Jamie completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying Oboe Performance under the tutelage of Linda Strommen. She recently graduated from the University of Washington with her Master of Music degree, studying with Mary Lynch, Principal Oboist of the Seattle Symphony. In 2019, Jamie performed with the University of Washington Wind Ensemble on its tour throughout China.
An avid freelancer, Jamie has performed in the Seattle area and beyond. She performed as Principal Oboe in Seattle Opera’s production of O+E and has played in the orchestra pit for the Emerald Ballet Theater’s production of The Nutcracker. She has served as Principal Oboe with the Bellingham Chamber Chorale, and has also played in recording sessions with the North Corner Chamber Orchestra and for Hummie Mann’s Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program.
Passionate about keeping the love of music alive in the upcoming generations, Jamie visits middle and high school bands to introduce students to the oboe and to coach students in sectionals. Remembering the struggle of finding reliable reed sources as a young oboist, Jamie has started a reed making business. Through PNW Reeds’ online store, she sells oboe reeds to beginning and advanced students both in the Seattle area and nationwide.
