Meet Samuel - Piano

I just graduated from Higley High School in May, and I played for their jazz band for three years as a pianist, making the Higley Jazz Band student of the year my junior year, as well as making it to the all-state jazz band in January of this year as their pianist. I've always been interested in music, some of my favorite genres are Classic Rock, Broadway, and Classical. I have been playing piano for the past 10 years or so, and play a lot of classical in my personal studies. I've studied music theory on my own for many years, from classical techniques to pop songwriting, and I'm currently pursuing a general Music degree at ASU. I worked as a teacher's aide my Senior year of high school for my Creative Writing teacher who I had the two years previous, so I have experience in classroom management and grading. Outside of that, I have taught private piano lessons for a little over a year, and I work with the student's wants and interests while still making sure they're getting quality technique, theory, and performance teaching. I believe the student's interests within music is what is most important, so I value having them choose what songs they would like to play as well as what books they would like to use, though I am most familiar with the Faber Piano Adventure books for their lesson and technique. I would be able to arrange songs for them if needed, and teach them any type of piano songs (pop, classical, soundtracks, jazz, etc.) in regards to what they like to play, because in my experience, I really got into piano once I found the songs I actually wanted to play, and it motivated me more to learn how to play them. I was born in and have lived in Arizona my whole life, and some other things I like to do outside of music are reading, drawing, playing games, and spending time with friends and family.
