Off To The Musicals

By Andrew White

“Doe, a deer, a female deer…”

“Tale as old as time…”

“I dreamed a dream in time gone by…”

“Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendor…”

“From the day, we arrive, on the planet…”

If your whistling, humming or full opera singing hasn't broken out yet, there’s something wrong! There’s nothing quite like a night at the musicals, whether it be a Broadway Show, West End Musical or Las Vegas Spectacular, they are nights you remember forever.

I remember the first musical I ever saw, Starlight Express, the zipping and the flying by of the cast on their skates and the music hitting the crescendo. All the way to my most recent, Phantom of the Opera in London and the spectacular musical hits at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Haymarket. There’s something quite magical about it all.

A night at the musicals is a phenomenal experience for everyone, but especially for kids. They don’t see the actual actors and actresses behind the costumes, they see real characters and the music that plays throughout from the pit orchestra, seems to just appear from nowhere. A night at the musicals could change your kids lives for the better - it opens them up to a whole world of music that otherwise they wouldn’t have seen.

But New York, Las Vegas and London aren’t exactly easy access from Seattle on a Friday or Saturday night, especially for a family with kids. That’s why in this weeks blog, we want to bring you information on two of the biggest and best hits making their way to us, right here in sunny Seattle!

Aladdin - Paramount Theatre

October 12th - 29th

“Hop onto a magic carpet with Disney's smash hit Broadway musical, which heads out across for its first ever North American tour. Based on the beloved animated movie, it's the wondrous tale of lovable urchin Aladdin, the evil Jafar and the beautiful Princess Jasmine. Oh, and the larger than life Genie as well of course! It includes all the songs from the movie ('A Friend Like Me', 'A Whole New World'), alongside specially written new numbers by musical maestros Alan Menken and Chad Beguelin.”

The Sound of Music - Paramount Theatre

September 6th-11th

“The hills are alive...you know the rest. Everyone's favourite tale of nannies, nuns and Nazis is heading out on a new North American tour. The last show written by legendary duo Rodgers and Hammerstein, this iconic musical boasts a score which reads like a Greatest Hits of musical theatre, with songs including My Favourite Things, Edelweiss and Do-Re-Mi. It's inspired an Oscar-winning movie, a TV talent show and, as the 18 million viewers who tuned in to see NBC's live special prove, remains an incredibly popular piece of American pop culture.”

Waste no more time and book your tickets! These events are sure to delight, and could provide the musical boost for you and your kids to take music to the next level. Something you’re sure not to regret. Once you’ve seen the show, write a review - we’d love to share it on our social media pages and with our AWSOM fans!
